JMI Equity 2024 Product and Technology Roundtable
Over 85 product, technology, payments and legal leaders gathered in Baltimore last week for JMI’s annual Product and Technology Roundtable.
The two-day event focused on emerging trends in artificial intelligence and cybersecurity, and included a broad array of keynote and breakout sessions tailored to executive leaders seeking to gain a competitive advantage in times of accelerating technological change.
AI played a major role in the theme for the event. Rachel Wilson, Chief Data Officer at Morgan Stanley Wealth Management and former head of the NSA’s counterterrorism group kicked off the day by providing the audience with a unique view into how AI technologies are enabling threat actors to stay ahead of corporate defenses. Rachel provided a sobering view into the speed with which the threat landscape is evolving, while arming the audience with a blueprint for how to reduce risk.
In addition to product and engineering-specific breakouts throughout the day, the agenda also included focused content on payments and legal topics. Sessions included discussion about how to build enterprise value by wrapping payments solutions around your core offering, and how to navigate legal issues related to AI and cybersecurity. The breakouts were facilitated by JMI advisors and operating leaders, and provided attendees a collaborative forum to challenge and learn from each other.
The afternoon sessions were energized by four JMI portfolio companies showcasing successful AI initiatives. Matt Morrison from Clinic Sites, Alo Sarv from SOCi, Andrew Stanbridge from Vena and Jonathan Watson from Clio formed the AI Lightning round panel, sharing examples of how they are leveraging these nascent technologies. The group shared lessons learned, common pitfalls, and specific recommendations for how to move quickly when planning, staffing and executing new AI initiatives.
Patrick Bradshaw, AWS Solution Architect at Amazon closed the day with an afternoon keynote session on GenAI. Patrick demonstrated how to build an in-product chatbot, providing the audience with a tangible, real-world example of how to leverage open-source tools to solve real user problems.
Thank you to all attendees, presenters, panelists, and discussion leaders. It was a highly productive session in Baltimore, and we are grateful for the opportunity to work with such a talented group of executives.
JMI’s next Roundtable event will be held on September 18th and 19th when our Sales, Marketing and Customer Success leaders will get together in San Diego.
